'Progress' was originally fitted with a Gardner LW4 and a Kelvin reverse gear. Steering was by chain and quadrant with the chain running above deck. This was changed to below deck by, we believe, the Navy to give clearer deck space.
'Progress' left Anstruther in 1935 with electric lights a clock and a compass. She was a modern fully capable mixed ability fishing boat.
The current position is she serves as a leisure vessel and carries the required equipment to enable safe passage in the coastal waters of the UK.
Domestically she is all electric utilising the latest available efficient galley and domestic lighting. LED lighting and induction cooking plates assist with this ideal.
Gas is not used to decrease the inherent fire risks.
She carries 2 24 volt alternators powered directly from her main Gardner engine. One is dedicated to the engine start batteries and the other looks after the 600 amp hour domestic battery bank. The domestic bank powers a 5kw 24volt inverter producing 240 volt modified sine wave power supply.
Domestically she is not over equipped, this is intentional, however it is possible to live in reasonable comfort, keep warm, keep clean and cook!
Heating is a combination of 3 x 3kw oil fired warm air heaters allowing flexibility in the event of a heater failure. Water heating is by a 3kw oil fired water heater and a 1Kw immersion heater when the main engine is running utilising a 5Kw inverter.
The head is a conventional Blake sea toilet. A slipper bath with overhead rain shower is fitted.
The domestic water storage is a bow tank of approx 1000 litres.
Galley equipment is 2 induction cooking plates, presurised water system and individual auxiliary electrical equipment such as toaster, fry pan and oven.
Fore and mizzen masts, manual winch on foredeck and standard deck gear for sail handling.
